SOM Outreach has been dedicated to providing pro-bono consulting services to local nonprofit and public sector organizations for the past fifteen years. We are committed to giving regional organizations valuable expertise while providing Yale School of Management (SOM) students a chance to engage in the surrounding community. We would like to extend an opportunity to your organization to submit an application for our consulting services.
The goal of SOM Outreach is to provide consulting services to organizations that cannot afford to purchase similar services elsewhere. Teams of four to six consultants are matched with a faculty advisor and a second-year MBA Project Manager to staff each project. SOM students have had several years of work experience in a range of sectors, bringing with them skills in marketing, finance, accounting, statistics, economic analysis and organizational development. In the past, students have spent an average of two hours a week on their SOM Outreach projects. Past projects have included business plan development, organizational structure studies, marketing plans, and strategic agency assessments.
SOM Outreach aims to build mutually beneficial partnerships with local organizations. In order to achieve this goal, it is important for us to understand your mission and to grasp what our role could be in helping you to fulfill it. The application is a central component in helping us to foster this awareness. We understand the tight time constraints you work under, and we appreciate the time that you will be devoting to this process. In return, we will do our best to provide high-quality services to benefit your organization. In your submission, we hope to see:
- Clearly defined project goals.
- Feasible project scope and timeline.
- Potential to make a significant impact on the client organization.
- Organizational commitment to the project, and
- Internal capacity to assist SOM Outreach Coordinators and Teams.
SOM Outreach Coordinators will review all applications received. Finalists will be notified in early September about their selection status and will be asked to meet with us to further define their projects and discuss desired outcomes. If your project is selected, you will be notified the following week and asked to attend a "Meet the Clients" session with student consultants. All projects are to be completed by Outreach Teams in a period covering approximately 10 weeks between mid-January and late March.
