ARCH 917a or b, Joint Community Development Clinic. 3 credits. A multidisciplinary, collaborative, clinical course focused on issues of neighborhood revitalization, urban policy, and community design. This course is based on ongoing efforts in the Dwight neighborhood in New Haven. Faculty and students are drawn from the following professional schools: Architecture, Epidemiology and Public Health, Forestry and Environmental Studies, Law, Management, Medicine, and Nursing. SOCY 183a, Urban America: Sociological Perspectives. Urban change and the problems of inner cities in the United States over the past half century, including the case of New Haven. Explanations of poverty, urban politics and policy, and race and gender in the city. Christopher Rhomberg.

SOCY 337a, Urban Poverty and Policy. Study of aspects of urban poverty such as unemployment, homelessness, welfare dependence, isolation, and educational deprivation in the context of recent, current, and proposed policies. Peter Marris.
