Recognizing the unique value of mentorship, WIM
has maintained the Mentor/Mentee Program as one of
its annual traditions.
The program matches incoming and current
first-year women with second-year women in a
mentoring relationship. Mentees seek and receive
advice on various issues related to academics,
job/career search, and social life at SOM.
In addition to individual pairings, WIM's mentorship program hosts
several events during the school year to foster the overall atmosphere
of mentoship and networking between the women of SOM. For example,
on September 16th, 2004, WIM's women faculty will host a tea to
welcome students to campus and to provide an opportunity for all
students and faculty to interact and get to know each other.
Several hundred mentoring pairings have been established over the
programs tenure. During the 2004-2005 school year, WIM established
over 60 first-year/second-year pairings.
WIM generally establishes mentoring matches during the summer,
months to allow first-year students to begin communicating with
their mentors prior to arriving on campus.
