Yale BioHaven Entrepreneurship Series: Presented by CURE and Yale OCR. Wednesday, October 24th, 2007. BioRelix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Followed by networking, refreshments & wine bar. BioRelix is a new company developing antibiotics that target microbial RNA. As the Yale BioHaven Entrepreneurship Series opens its third season, two of the key players at BioRelix, founder Ronald Breaker, Ph.D., and interim CEO Ronald W Lennox, D. Phil., will explain the company's technology and business strategy. Long recognized as reliable drugs, antibiotics have become a $30 billion per year industry. But patents for many antibiotics will expire in the next few years, and all classes of antibiotics are encountering wide-spread resistance from the bacterial pathogens at which they are aimed. BioRelix owns a world-wide license to develop and market RiboSwitch™-target antibiotics. "RiboSwitches™" are short stretches of messenger RNA that bind small metabolites and control genes that are essential for the survival of many disease-causing microbes. Each class of RiboSwitch™ could potentially serve as a novel antibacterial drug target. In June of 2007, BioRelix raised almost $26 million in a first funding round. Location: The Anlyan Center auditorium, Yale Medical School. Directions & Parking: http://info.med.yale.edu/maps/cab.html. RSVP: Registration is free, but please RSVP in advance. E-mail to biohaven@yale.edu or call the Yale OCR main number: 203-785-6209.
