Growing up in northern New Jersey, Jinny always chose to march to her own beat. At the same time, she has always been acutely aware of God’s hand in her life. And behind her carefree individuality is a rock-solid identity that shines through in every facet of her life. Sensitive but strong, deeply caring and passionate, Jinny is not afraid to bare her soul through her singing and songwriting. She is that little girl with the ‘big’ voice that takes people by surprise. But the message she carries is even bigger and she is anything but timid about it. For her, it’s the reason she sings and shares her songs at all. Her debut album, “Finding Ophelia”(scheduled to be released Fall of 2005) is a collection of songs the artist wrote during times of personal challenges and experiences – her very real conversations with God, as she puts it.
“I think my songs bring to light things people don’t want to talk about, that they don’t want to consider. But these things need to be talked about because in God’s light all things are revealed.” Songs like “Everything” and “Ophelia” touch upon themes of disillusionment and loss. They evoke an image of a girl who is lost in a maze of false expectations, who goes out into life thinking it’s a fairytale, but something shatters and there’s pain and pieces. She needs a piece of your everything/ She needs the peace of your hand. “It’s an oxymoron,” Jinny says, “because we say we need a piece of God, but in saying so, we really need all of God.” The words in “Beauty for Ashes” stir our curiosity. What can one gain from a brave confrontation of a past injustice, even something so old it’s only a drift of ashes?
“Give me your ashes and I’ll give you a crown of beauty…”
“I think that exchange is powerful,” states the singer and songwriter.
